Our business began as an improved cookstove project in Ghana in 2002. The Gyapa Enterprise cookstove program has grown into the largest locally produced cookstove industry and largest carbon financed cookstove project on the continent. We've taken a multi-faceted approach by creating a local supply chain, facilitating the growth of local producers, retailers and partners through the production of our low cost effective technologies. Additionally, we provide business support services and trade financing to entrepreneurs in our distribution and production network.

We utilize carbon financing through our partnership with ClimateCare. Our carbon revenue is central to our business model, allowing us to not only invest in business partners, but provide marketing, maintain quality standards, provide business and production training  and trade financing, as well as penetrate new markets to not only increase business opportunities for producers but to increase access for our new customers.

With the success of the cookstove project, we were able to use our extensive distribution network to incorporate more high-impact products into our portfolio.

Our products improve customers' quality of life by saving them money, improving their health, benefiting the environment and and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our current product portfolio includes:
  • Gyapa Fuel-Efficient Cookstoves
  • CrystalPur Water  Filters
  • bob Rainwater Bags

Established in 2002 with initial startup capital from USAID, Shell Foundation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, we began as a market-based fuel-efficient cookstove program. In 2007, we transformed into a carbon credit financed enterprise in cooperation with JP Morgan ClimateCare (formerly Pioneer Carbon). In 2011, we received our first carbon credit issuance of 252,682 Verified Emissions Reductions, the largest single issuance of Gold Standard cookstove credits to that date. We reached over 1 million tons of total carbon emissions reductions in November 2012. In April 2013, we received our second issuance of 443,533 VERs.  We are one of the largest carbon financed projects of the Gold Standard globally.

In 2010, we added a household water filter to our portfolio, launching CrystalPur in partnership with the Arthur Guinness Fund. We are currently conducting market research and piloting additional high-impact products.

Since 2007, we have sold over 484,860 fuel-efficient cookstoves and are now selling at a rate of 11,000+ per month. We have sold more than 13,500 CrystalPur water filters in Ghana and Nigeria.
